The Elderly Care Group plus many volunteers from church ran a very successful Holiday at Home again this summer. As word spreads what a very enjoyable day this is we have more and more people wanting to come and we were oversubscribed this year. Next year with our own church ready to use that shouldn’t be a problem. That does sound very exciting!
Volunteers picked up those who needed transport and we started with some gentle exercises followed by Rich’s thought for the day and his rendition of Leaning on a lamp post with his son’s ukulele. We then watched a fascinating film called “Make do and Mend”, a compilation of government tips and film cuttings from the era. No rations, though, where lunch was concerned. Lynne Blackmore masterminded a fabulous lunch and cooked a parcel of cakes for everyone to take home with the message “Keep Calm and Eat Cake”.
Mel and Margaret Matthews provided the entertainment in the afternoon with community singing and jokes, followed by a visit from the ice cream man. As they left everyone said what a very enjoyable day it had been.We had financial help from the Parish Council, Becketts, Honnor’s the local butcher and the ice-cream man – a great community day!
