Lent 2019: Don’t give up; take up!

According to a popular newspaper the most popular things to give up for Lent last year were chocolate, social networking, alcohol, Twitter, Facebook, school, meat, sweet, coffee and fizzy drinks. The abstinence from these things aims to remind us of the experiences of Jesus during his time of fasting for 40 days in the desert before he began his ministry and to help focus and reflect on the eventual sacrifice Jesus made for us on the cross. But, this period in Jesus life has far more to teach us about living a spirit filled Christian life that it does about giving things up.
